Webzen said on Tuesday it filed a lawsuit and applied for a provisional injunction against DragonSword developer Hound13 to bar it from self-publishing.
Webzen said Hound13 has been preparing to launch on Steam, a move that recently became known publicly, and that it is proceeding unilaterally without prior agreement.
Webzen said it urged the normalisation of domestic game service as the publisher, but Hound13 said it would prepare a Steam service instead of providing additional support for domestic service.
Webzen said a Steam service carried out without lawful publishing authority could cause confusion in protecting game members at home and abroad and in providing relief for damages. It said additional customer harm could occur, including refund issues, if the Steam service is later suspended depending on a court decision.
Webzen said it filed the lawsuit to confirm the validity of its publishing rights and sought the injunction barring the developer from self-publishing to prevent customer harm in advance.
Webzen said it would work to resolve the dispute through legal procedures and secure a stable game service environment. It said it would provide any further updates through its official community.
