South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA) will co-host Nvidia Nemotron Developer Day Seoul with Nvidia from Tuesday through April 24 at Front1 in Mapo, Seoul, the ministry said on Monday.

The event is designed to share research results on Nvidia's open-source AI model Nemotron and to strengthen practical capabilities so local developers can apply it in their work.

At the event, Nvidia researchers will introduce strategies for generating synthetic data and reinforcement learning know-how for model optimisation. Participants will also be able to experience full-stack AI technology on site, spanning GPU infrastructure, data, models and training methods.

The ministry will also hold a panel discussion linked to the event with companies participating in developing a "Korean-style independent foundation model". Four consortia, including SK Telecom, Upstage, Elice Group and Motif Technologies, will take part and are set to discuss domestic AI competitiveness and strategies for entering global markets.

A two-day hackathon will also be held. Participants will compete in areas including solving problems based on AI agents, developing industry-specific models and generating high-quality data using Nvidia technology.

Jinsoo Lee (이진수), director general for AI policy planning at the ministry, said the developer day was part of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in global technology sharing and talent development that the government promised with Nvidia in October last year. It will provide an opportunity for local AI developers to learn global technology trends and internalise capabilities to use them in practice, he said.
