South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT said on Sunday it is pushing a plan called "SPRInT" to concentrate its capabilities on major policies under its remit.
SPRInT is a policy brand named after the initials of Start-up, Physical AI, Region, International and Talent. Second Vice Prime Minister and Science and ICT Minister Kyung-hoon Bae (배경훈) named it himself.
The goal is to build an information-sharing and collaboration system for five issues that are key MSIT tasks but had been spread across various departments: start-ups, physical AI, regions, international cooperation and talent development.
Relevant departments for each of the five issues will continuously share key schedules and plans. They will seek ways to boost policy effectiveness and expand public convenience through communication and close cooperation. If needed, they can also jointly push external events or policy promotion, with oversight managed under the cooperation of the science, technology and AI policy cooperation coordinator.
Bae said SPRInT will concentrate the ministry's policy capabilities and further improve mutual understanding between offices and bureaus. He said it will not be a one-off effort and will be checked regularly using an electronic board installed in his office, while continuing to spread an efficient, collaboration-focused work culture.
