Samsung Electronics’ new foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold, has sold out in the U.S. market both online and offline, effectively concluding first-generation sales.

An IT outlet, PhoneArena, reported on April 17 that Samsung changed the product notice on its U.S. online store to “completely sold out” and no longer guides customers to check inventory at offline stores. Previously, when online stock ran out, Samsung had directed customers to check inventory at Samsung Experience Stores. This time, stock has been exhausted both online and offline.

The sellout followed a short resale period. Samsung said in March it would halt sales of the Galaxy Z TriFold, but earlier this month it resumed sales through its online store and some offline outlets. The restocked units sold out within days, the report said. That is similar to the earlier pattern of rapid sellouts at initial stocking in South Korea and the United States.

Judging by sales, Samsung appears to have gradually cleared remaining inventory after ending initial sales. With guidance to check offline stock also halted, the first-generation Galaxy Z TriFold is interpreted as having effectively withdrawn completely from the market.

Market attention is naturally shifting to a successor model. The industry sees development of a Galaxy Z TriFold 2 as under way. A new hinge structure is being discussed for the next model, with 전망 that it could reduce thickness and improve portability.

Some observations also raise analysis that the successor model may not be able to fully secure competitiveness in thickness compared with the existing Galaxy Z Fold 7. At the same time, the possibility of a wider screen has been mentioned, and Samsung is expected to readjust the balance between large-screen usability and portability.

The case shows that demand for new form factors such as a tri-fold is not yet mainstream, but limited supply can be absorbed quickly by the market. More weight is also being given to the possibility that Samsung could choose a strategy of ending first-generation sales early and then reconfirming market reaction with a next model reflecting structural improvements.

The Galaxy Z TriFold showed the character of a “limited-supply product,” with sales suspension, restocking and a renewed sellout repeating in a short cycle. For now, the timing of a successor model’s launch and its completeness are cited as key variables that will shape the market landscape, rather than the possibility of additional supply.
