AI-based CAD and smart construction solutions company Cadian said on Jan. 5 it is launching CADian TWArch Pro, a specialised program that supports the design, analysis, restoration and virtual implementation of traditional wooden buildings.
The company said TWArch is a virtual design solution that implements structural principles and design methods of traditional wooden architecture in a way optimised for a digital environment. It features an intuitive design environment based on 3D modelling beyond existing 2D drawing-centred design.
It systematically defines major components that make up traditional wooden architecture, including bracket sets, purlins, beams, columns and lintels. Users can design each component’s dimensions and connection relationships through numeric input, allowing the structure to be checked visually.
Designing traditional wooden buildings has involved many repetitive tasks because numerous components are organically combined in a complex structure, and has relied heavily on long experience and the instincts of skilled experts. The company said TWArch addresses these limits by offering component-level design automation, efficient creation of repetitive structures and 3D virtual implementation functions close to actual construction structures.
A Cadian official said, “TWArch is a specialised solution that goes beyond a simple 3D modelling tool by systematically implementing the structural characteristics and design logic of traditional wooden architecture in a digital environment.” The official added, “We are continuously advancing its functions by prioritising stability and practicality required in actual design and restoration sites.”
Cadian said it plans to expand use of TWArch across areas including the survey, research and education of traditional cultural heritage. It also plans to keep improving functions and optimising the interface by reflecting user feedback, with the aim of establishing it as a leading specialised design solution connecting traditional architecture and digital technology.
