[DigitalToday reporter Jin-ho Lee] LGU+ held a disability awareness improvement programme for employees to mark the Day of Persons with Disabilities.
LGU+ said on April 19 it held 'LG Inclusive Day – Accessibility and Disability Awareness Lunch Concert' on April 17 at LG Sciencepark in Magok, Seoul, with LG Electronics. The Miral Welfare Foundation and the Paradise Welfare Foundation participated as partners. About 300 employees attended.
At the event, the Bridge On Chamber Orchestra from the Miral Welfare Foundation, made up of musicians with developmental disabilities, gave a musical performance. A lecture to help people understand disabilities was also held. LG Electronics introduced its AI home hub 'LG ThinQ On' and Internet of Things (IoT) devices, a comfort kit to help people use home appliances more easily, an 'Easy Writing' book titled 'Home Appliance School' produced to help people understand safe ways to use appliances, and the 'Bold Move' magazine introducing the accessibility philosophy embedded in products and services.
The company also ran hands-on programmes for employees. It offered opportunities to try various assistive devices, including making braille key rings, optical character readers, voice-support assistive devices and augmented reality (AR) glasses for people with low vision. The Paradise Welfare Foundation operated an AI-based assistive device experience booth for the second consecutive year, supporting employees so they could directly understand the information accessibility environment for people with disabilities.
LGU+ will use the event as an opportunity to expand disability awareness improvement activities across its work culture. It plans to continue working with LG Electronics and disability welfare organisations to spread inclusive technology and culture. LGU+ will also hold an accessibility and disability awareness lunch concert at its Yongsan office building on April 21.
Park Kyung-joong (박경중), head of external cooperation at LGU+ and an executive director, said, "We prepared this event so employees can see and experience accessibility firsthand." He added, "We will continue to spread inclusive technology and culture that contribute to improving awareness of people with disabilities."
