Uber has added a service to its Uber Eats app that lets customers return items they bought from home, TechCrunch reported on Thursday.

Uber Eats users can tap “Return an item” in their order history, select the item and then choose “Return with a courier.” The return fee is based on the courier’s travel time and distance.

The service allows returns only for eligible retail items purchased on Uber Eats and follows each store’s return policy. Only items priced at $20 or more can be returned. Participating retailers currently include At Home, Best Buy, Dick's Sporting Goods, GNC, Michael's, Pet Food Express, Pacsun, Petco and Target, and more retailers will be added later.

The service is part of Uber’s strategy to increase app usage beyond its core businesses of ride-hailing and food delivery.

Uber launched Uber Connect in 2020 for delivering packages to friends or colleagues, and later introduced Uber Direct. In 2023, it added a return service to Uber Connect for U.S. Postal Service, UPS and FedEx deliveries.
