Kim Jong-cheol (김종철), chairman of the Broadcasting Media and Communications Commission, attended the "2026 Korea Private Broadcasting Day ceremony" held at the Ulsan Exhibition and Convention Center on April 17. "Private broadcasters are a backbone that has recorded local lives and protected the values of democracy," he said.

Kim also held a meeting with executives from nine private broadcasters including SBS, KNN, TBC and TBJ. They discussed pending regulatory and promotional policy issues related to local broadcasting, and he heard industry requests and difficulties.

"To strengthen competitiveness, we will rationally improve the remaining regulations and expand support for content production, providing policy backing," he stressed.

The Korea Private Broadcasting Day ceremony is an event the Korea Private Broadcasting Association has held every year since 2006 to present awards for outstanding programs and individuals who have contributed to the development of broadcasting.
