LG U+ said on April 16 it will provide 5 million won raised through its employee donation programme, "Love of 1,000 Won", to support emergency medical costs for visually impaired households ahead of Disability Day on April 20.

The couple receiving the support have a congenital visual impairment and have a 1-year-old child. Their child recently suffered a fall and will need treatment for at least 1 year. LG U+ decided to provide emergency medical costs in cooperation with the Korea Blind Union.

"Love of 1,000 Won", launched in 2016, is an in-house donation programme in which LG U+ employees voluntarily participate. They choose an amount of at least 1,000 won each month and donate it through payroll deductions. Cumulative donations surpassed 300 million won as of December last year.

LG U+ plans this year to focus its Love of 1,000 Won sponsorship on people with disabilities, one of the company’s key social contribution priorities. The company is carrying out social contribution projects based on three pillars: supporting a stable life for people with disabilities and public safety workers, addressing environmental issues, and resolving the shadow of its telecommunications business.

Shin Tae-jong (신태종), a manager at LG U+ who represented employees at the handover ceremony, said, "While joining Love of 1,000 Won, I felt again that small acts of sharing can come together to become a great source of strength." He added, "I hope this donation will be of some help to the daily lives of visually impaired people."

Kim Jae-ryong (김재룡), head of the Korea Blind Union, said, "I deeply thank the LG U+ employees for empathising with the practical difficulties of families with visual impairments and putting warm sharing into practice." He added, "I hope this support will serve as an opportunity to further spread the values of inclusion and solidarity in our society."
