The National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA) said on April 13 it signed a memorandum of understanding with Kyonggi University on April 10 to revitalise the open source ecosystem and foster future converged talent.
The agreement was pursued to train practice-oriented talent that meets industry demand and promote wider use of open source through cooperation between a public institution and a university.
The two organisations agreed to cooperate on expanding the adoption and use of open source, training talent through specialist open source education programmes, awareness-raising activities such as seminars and academic conferences, and joint use of equipment and facilities for education and research.
Lee Kyung-rok (이경록), head of NIPA's Software Convergence Division, said, "Through this agreement, we will build a training system for practice-oriented talent based on open source and expand a cooperation model that links industry and education."
Kwon Gi-hyeon (권기현), head of Kyonggi University's Software-Centered University project, said, "We will strengthen the foundation for cultivating future open source talent through open source education and research cooperation."
