LG Uplus is replacing SIM cards for all customers over a design flaw in its International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI) scheme. A total of 96,139 people applied through the second day of advance store visit reservations.

LG Uplus said that as of 8 p.m. on April 9, the number of customers who booked store visits for SIM updates and replacements stood at 38,021 for mobile network operator (MNO) customers. The cumulative total was 89,709, or 0.7 percent of all customers. Mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) customers made 2,542 store visit reservations. The cumulative total was 6,430, about 0.1 percent of all customers.

Earlier, concerns emerged over LG Uplus' IMSI design method. Worries among customers grew after it became known that the company had partially reflected customers' actual mobile phone numbers in the process of generating IMSIs.

LG Uplus will carry out SIM updates and free replacements for all customers. It began operating an advance reservation system through the U+one app and its website from April 8. SIM updates and replacements will be rolled out sequentially from April 13.
