[DigitalToday reporter Hyunwoo Choo (추현우)] The fan market has changed. It has moved beyond appliances that simply blow air to an era that weighs air circulation, noise and energy efficiency. Shinil Electronics’ circulator-style stand fan, the SIF-14PNT, is a product that reads that trend.

Inside the box are the main unit, a stand pole, a round base and a magnetic remote control. Assembly, fitting the pole into the base and attaching the head, took about 5 minutes. The finished product’s height is 880 to 1,080 mm, with 10 height settings in 2 cm increments. It covers eye level from an adult seated on a sofa to standing.

The core of the product is a brushless DC motor (BLDC). Unlike a standard AC motor, it has lower noise and a longer lifespan, and it includes a motor capable of high-efficiency, high-speed rotation. After running continuously for 5 hours, the motor housing felt only lukewarm to the touch. With an ordinary fan, you would likely feel significant heat. Power consumption is 35W, and the electricity-bill burden is lower than that of an AC motor fan with the same airflow volume.

Its 3D oscillation is the key function that places it in the circulator category. It moves 120 degrees left to right and 105 degrees up and down (15 degrees downward plus 90 degrees upward), covering the whole space three-dimensionally. The left-right angle can be set in three steps of 30 degrees, 60 degrees and 120 degrees. Narrowing it to 30 degrees was effective for focused airflow for one person, while widening it to 120 degrees worked well when used with family. It also has a feature that automatically returns the head to face forward when the power is turned off. It removes the inconvenience of turning it on in the morning only to find it facing an unexpected direction.

Airflow reach is 15 metres in the specifications. In a living room of about 12 pyeong, turning it toward a wall still produced a noticeable air flow on a sofa on the opposite side. When used with an air conditioner, it helped spread cool air evenly throughout the room. That suggests electricity savings may be possible, as perceived heat stayed similar even when raising the air-conditioner temperature by 1 to 2 degrees.

Eco mode was the most useful feature in actual use. A temperature sensor on the lower panel detects ambient temperature and automatically adjusts the fan speed. It stops at 19 degrees and runs at level 12 maximum wind at 32 degrees or above. With one setting, the fan responds on its own to indoor temperature changes. It was particularly convenient during seasonal transitions when midday temperatures rise and fall, or in spaces where ventilation is frequent.

Sleep wind and natural wind modes also stood out. Sleep wind changes intensity gently at 30-minute intervals, creating a natural wind pattern as you fall asleep. Natural wind raises and lowers airflow intensity at 6-second intervals, producing a feel close to a breeze. After using sleep wind mode for a week, the experience of stiffening up from the chill at dawn decreased.

The magnetic remote control sticks firmly to the metal stand pole. There is no risk of losing it, and it is easy to keep within reach from a bed or sofa. The LED control panel has adjustable brightness, addressing the issue of light being bothersome at bedtime. The timer can set on and off in 30-minute increments for up to 8 hours, making it suitable to link with a sleep routine.

There are some disappointments. Air concentration is high thanks to the 7-blade design and dense grille structure, but removing dust between the grille gaps during cleaning is somewhat cumbersome. At the level 12 maximum speed, a somewhat sharp noise occurs due to the circulator’s characteristics. For use during sleep, levels 6 and below are recommended.

The price of 179,000 won is reasonable given the feature set. Among domestic-brand circulators equipped with a BLDC motor, 3D oscillation and eco mode, this price range is not common. For consumers who prioritise energy efficiency and durability, it is an option worth considering.
