With expectations that a ceasefire between the United States and Iran will hold, South Korea's KOSPI opened up more than 1 percent on Thursday. It reclaimed the 5,800 level as gains were led by semiconductor stocks.
As of 9:20 a.m., the KOSPI is up 92.59 points, or 1.60 percent, from the previous session at 5,870.60. It opened up 98.11 points, or 1.70 percent, at 5,876.12 and has extended gains.
By investor type, individuals bought a net 137.1 billion won worth of shares. Foreigners and institutions sold a net 40.5 billion won and 115.5 billion won, respectively.
Most top market-cap stocks were higher. Samsung Electronics rose 1.59 percent to 207,250 won and SK Hynix gained 3.11 percent to 1,029,000 won.
Hyundai Motor rose 0.20 percent, SK Square gained 3.75 percent, Hanwha Aerospace rose 2.27 percent, Samsung Biologics added 0.70 percent and KB Financial Group climbed 3.05 percent.
LG Energy Solution, which was the only stock to rise the previous day, fell 0.71 percent.
The Kosdaq rose 8.53 points, or 0.79 percent, from the previous session to 1,084.53.
The won was 2.20 won weaker against the dollar at 1,478.20.
