Ko Sung-kyu (고성규), a professor at Kyung Hee University’s College of Korean Medicine, has been appointed as the new head of the Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine.
The National Research Council of Science and Technology (NST) held an extraordinary board meeting on April 8 and appointed Ko as the new president. Ko earned a bachelor’s degree in Korean medicine in 1991, a master’s degree in 1993 and a doctorate in Korean medicine in 1998 from Kyung Hee University. He also obtained a medical doctorate from Seoul National University in 2009.
After joining Kyung Hee University in 2005, he served as dean of the College of Korean Medicine, among other posts. He also served as vice president of the Association of Korean Medicine, chairman of the National New Drug Development Foundation, and an adviser to the State Affairs Planning Committee, among other roles.
Ko received his letter of appointment from NST Chairman Young-sik Kim (김영식) on April 8 and will begin a three-year term from April 9.
