Toss Bank said on Tuesday its K-Pass debit card has been issued about 130,000 times in the month since its launch. That averages about 4,100 cards a day, or about 3 per minute.

The card was launched to ease public transport costs for users. It offers an additional 2,000 won cashback when monthly public transport spending is 40,000 won or more, on top of the K-Pass refund benefit. Users can receive the benefits by meeting the transport spending threshold, regardless of the previous month’s spending.

Under the government’s policy response to high oil prices, the K-Pass refund rate for general users was also temporarily raised to 30 percent from 20 percent. The benefit applies for six months from April 2026. As a result, using public transport 30 times a month produces transport cost savings of about 15,000 won when combining the government refund and Toss Bank cashback.

The early popularity is seen as being influenced by ease of use and the benefit structure. The bank implemented a system allowing users to complete K-Pass sign-up and card linking in one step within the Toss app, simplifying the process. About 94 percent of customers who linked their cards to K-Pass after issuance registered through the app.

By age group, people in their 20s accounted for the largest share at 42.6 percent. Those in their 30s and 40s each accounted for 14.2 percent, followed by people in their 50s at 12.2 percent, teens at 11.7 percent and those aged 60 or older at 5.1 percent. The structure providing benefits without previous-month spending and the easy user experience are seen as driving inflows of younger customers.

A Toss Bank official said, "Toss Bank’s K-Pass debit card is designed to make everyday travel bring benefits." The official added, "We believe the intuitive benefit structure, the easy user experience and a structure connected to a community were received positively by customers."
