Park In-gyu (박인규), head of the science and technology innovation office at the Ministry of Science and ICT, held a K-Science agenda lab on Monday at the Federation of Science and Technology Societies to discuss discovering 'K-Science' projects and science storytelling ideas.

The ministry has previously said it would promote the K-Science policy in the draft "2027 National Research and Development Investment Direction and Standards" announced in March. It later received related ideas from ministries, departments and agencies. K-Science is a new science and technology paradigm that can contribute to social and cultural development as well as the economy by combining Korea’s unique history, culture and environment. It seeks to develop a science culture based on storytelling that the public can relate to.

The agenda lab, held with eight ministries including the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Heritage Administration, as well as related experts, discussed ideas submitted by ministries and agencies for promoting K-Science. The Ministry of Science and ICT will reflect views presented by experts in each technology field and in science culture, including culture, food, land and astronomy, and later finalise specific plans for K-Science in 2027.

“Going forward, I ask for a range of opinions so that through K-Science we can create our own research achievements and, linked with science culture, reach the public,” Park said.
