Samsung Electronics may expand the 'Share with Apple devices' option introduced in its file-sharing feature Quick Share to its major flagship devices.
On April 6, IT outlet PhoneArena cited an insider on One UI as saying the feature could be applied to the Galaxy S24 and S25 series and the Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 after the next One UI 8.5 beta update.
The feature is seen as an attempt to reduce inconvenience in file transfers between Android and iOS. Until now, sharing photos or files quickly with iPhone users has required messenger apps or cloud links. Adding an Apple-device transfer option to Quick Share is expected to make sharing easier.
Tarun Vats (타룬 바츠), who has shared One UI information, was reported as saying, "The Galaxy S25 lineup and the Z Fold7 and Z Flip7, and even the Galaxy S24 series, may soon receive a Quick Share update." A claim also surfaced that the feature is already working in an internal test build, ZZD1.
On timing, PhoneArena forecast that the One UI 8.5 beta could be distributed to Galaxy S25 users as early as around April 9. It also said additional beta releases could follow before the official update.
Some also point out that the user experience is still falling short of expectations. There were recent reports that the Share with Apple devices option appeared on some Galaxy S22 and later devices, but cases were reported in which the feature did not work properly or the menu itself did not appear. Some users said they saw the option in settings, while others said they could not find the menu even on the same model.
A phased regional rollout policy is cited as a reason for the confusion. When Samsung announced the feature, it said it would expand it sequentially starting with South Korea to Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, Central and South America, North America, Southeast Asia and Taiwan. Some regions may still not have the feature enabled.
The outlet said that if the option does not appear even in a region where the feature is provided, users can try updating Google Play services or the Quick Share app. It added that this method is also not a sure fix.
Some in the industry view Samsung's attempt to lower cross-platform barriers positively, while also saying the fragmented rollout could hurt the user experience. As the aim is to reduce friction in file sharing between iOS and Android, there are growing calls for more consistent feature availability from the initial rollout stage.
