The Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) said on Tuesday that a "next-generation vehicle communications technology (V2X1) security certification system specification test equipment" developed in-house by a South Korean company was officially recognised by the OmniAir Consortium, a global certification body, as OmniAir Qualified Test Equipment (OQTE).
According to TTA, the product developed by South Korean autonomous driving and connected car security solution company Saesol Tech was approved as the world’s first OmniAir-qualified test equipment in the security field. The achievement was carried out as part of the Ministry of Science and ICT’s "ICT convergence autonomous driving foundation building" project. TTA supported the entire process from the early stage of product development through validation and approval.
OmniAir’s approval process for qualified certification test equipment has very strict standards and requires advanced technical verification, making it difficult for an individual company to pass on its own. TTA, which holds OmniAir Accredited Test Lab (OATL) status, supported Saesol Tech based on its internationally accredited testing and certification capabilities and know-how. It carried out thorough pre-verification of Saesol Tech’s test equipment and analysed technical issues such as protocol errors in the testing process, presenting solutions.
The V2X testing and certification equipment market has been dominated by a small number of global companies overseas, but Saesol Tech’s approval as qualified certification test equipment has made it possible to localise test equipment and break away from technological dependence. South Korean V2X terminal and base station manufacturers are expected to be able to prepare certification tests more quickly and at lower cost using accredited equipment made with domestic technology.
TTA Chairman Seung-hyun Son (손승현) said, "This achievement is a feat created by the synergy between the technological capabilities of a strong small and medium-sized domestic company and TTA’s testing and certification know-how." He added, "TTA will continue to discover strong small and medium-sized companies related to autonomous driving in South Korea and will accelerate efforts to build an ecosystem that provides one-stop support from technical consulting to obtaining global certifications."
