Netflix has launched a kids-only games app, Netflix Playground, TechCrunch reported on Sunday.
Netflix Playground is available to Netflix subscribers at no extra cost and has no advertising or in-app purchases. It is designed for children aged 8 and under and supports both iOS and Android. It can also be used offline, making it useful on long flights or when going out.
It is currently available in the United States, Canada, Britain, Australia, the Philippines and New Zealand, and will expand worldwide on April 28. Launch titles include Playtime With Peppa Pig, Sesame Street games, Let's Color, Storybots and Bad Dinosaurs.
John Derderian (존 더더리안), Netflix vice president of animation series, kids and family TV, said, "We are building a world where children go beyond watching stories they love and step inside them to interact directly with the characters."
Netflix entered the games business in 2021, but later scaled back as its titles failed to draw attention. It also shut down several game studios, including Boss Fight and Spry Fox. In late last year, it broadened into TV games by introducing group party games such as TV versions of Tetris and Pictionary. It has also presented cloud gaming as a priority, but said it is still in the early stages.
