The Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) said on Sunday it received an extension from the National Radio Research Agency under the Ministry of Science and ICT for the validity period of its designation as an information and communications standards development cooperation organisation (COSD) and as an international standardisation secretariat for ISO, IEC and JTC 1 until April 5, 2031.
The COSD system, under the Industrial Standardization Act, designates and operates corporations or organisations as cooperating bodies to improve the efficiency of developing national standards (KS) and to quickly reflect market demand. With the extension, TTA will continue serving as a standards control tower that identifies demand to establish and revise national ICT standards and responds quickly to international standardisation bodies.
TTA, a specialised institution for ICT standard-setting and testing and certification, was designated in 2016 as a COSD and secretariat organisation in the information and communications sector. It has managed 32 technical committees (TC) and subcommittees (SC), including JTC 1 (overall), information security and the Internet of Things, as well as 1,137 types of national standards (KS). Over 10 years, it achieved results including 328 cases of national standards development, hosting 47 international meetings in South Korea and developing 172 international standards led by South Korea.
Starting with the extension, TTA will 추진 AI-technology-based application standardisation by technology field across 32 TC and SC areas. It will strengthen domestic and international cooperation through TTA's various standards networks, including the Information and Communications Standardization Committee, the Korea ITU-T Study Group Committee and ICT standardisation forums. It will also pursue efficient COSD operations based on AI technologies such as AI translation and the use of AI for business automation.
TTA Chairman Seung-hyun Son (손승현) said, "Over the next five years as well, we will spare no effort in support so that domestic information and communications technology can lead the global standards market through thorough management and systematic operation."
