Meta is actively using AI coding tools to speed up product development and restructure its organisation, Business Insider reported on April 4.
The most notable change is how it deploys staff. Meta set some engineers a target of writing 50 to 80 percent of their code using AI.
Business Insider reported that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg wants engineers who can deliver 100 times productivity by directing a group of AI agents, instead of junior developers who handle basic tasks.
The most radical reorganisation took place at Reality Labs. An internal tools team of about 1,000 people was reshaped around small AI-native pods.
Employees are called "AI builders" and managers "AI pod leads", and performance evaluations are also being conducted using AI.
As the news spread to other departments, anxiety is growing among employees. Erik Meijer (에릭 메이어), a former Meta engineering director, said participants at an internal "AI Week" worried they were "digging their own graves". That is because even if Meta increases features tenfold, users may not be able to absorb them given its scale of user base, ultimately leading to staff cuts. But Meta said the overhaul was not intended to reduce headcount.
