Police have launched a forced investigation into LG Uplus, which is suspected of covering up a hacking incident.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s Anti-Corruption Investigation Division searched LG Uplus’ Magok headquarters in Seoul’s Gangseo district in mid-March on suspicion of obstructing official duties and other charges, the industry said on Thursday. LG Uplus is suspected of intentionally disposing of servers believed to be linked to a hacking incident, including a leak of customer personal data, and reinstalling them, hindering a forensic investigation by security authorities.
The Ministry of Science and ICT had earlier said in December last year that it had confirmed a data leak at LG Uplus but could not continue its investigation due to server issues, and had requested a police investigation.
