The Korea Broadcasters Association said on April 3 it held its 2026 annual general meeting and board meeting in Yeouido and resolved joint cooperation among 39 member companies on responding to AI and improving discriminatory regulations.
The general meeting approved business results and accounts for 2025. It also passed the business plan and budget proposal for 2026. It confirmed renewals of board positions for Ahn Hyung-joon (안형준), president of MBC, Bang Moon-shin (방문신), president of SBS, and Kim Yoo-yeol (김유열), president of EBS, after their terms expired. It also confirmed the continuation in office of Park Chan-wook (박찬욱), auditor at KBS. Hwang Oe-jin (황외진), president of Daegu MBC, was appointed as a new board director.
The board appointed Ahn as the association's next chairman, whose term will begin in August.
Bang, the association's chairman, said, "As unreasonable uses of funds in the broadcast development fund area are being sorted out, a foundation has been 마련됐다 for expanding support for regional and small and mid-sized broadcasters." He said, "We will respond 적극적으로 to the unauthorized use of broadcast content for AI training, and work to ensure the broadcasting industry is not excluded from national AI policy."
Ahn, the chairman-elect, said, "In a situation where the reality facing terrestrial broadcasters is not easy, I feel an infinite sense of responsibility." He said, "As a key player in the birth of K-culture, I will work with representatives of member companies to create a turning point so terrestrial broadcasters can play their role."
