The Korea Association for ICT Promotion (KAIT) said on Feb. 24 it held its 145th board meeting and 40th regular general meeting and appointed SK Telecom CEO Jung Jaeheon (정재헌) as its new chairman.
The board discussed the association's operating direction and measures to strengthen its organisation to respond to an industry environment being reshaped around AI and digital.
In inaugural remarks, Jung said the association's role was becoming more important amid an era in which AI and digital transformation is accelerating. He said he would strengthen the association's standing as a central body for promoting the AI industry and supporting digital policy.
The board meeting and general meeting approved amendments to the association's bylaws to change its English name. KAIT will change the name from "Korea Association for ICT Promotion" to "Korea Association for AI & ICT Promotion" to clarify its functions and role and reflect an expanded scope of business including AI.
KAIT also confirmed its business plan for this year and decided to push ahead with projects to revitalise the AI and digital industry ecosystem and strengthen projects in broadcasting, media and telecommunications. It plans to continue expanding the association's public role by fostering digital talent, supporting AI-based industries, and reinforcing its functions in policy research and institutional improvement.
