South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT held an "AI Safety Public Talk Concert" on Tuesday with the Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) and the Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute.

The ministry is pushing its "AI for All" policy in earnest and is seeking policy measures to build an environment in which the public can use AI safely in daily life. The talk concert was organised as a forum for communication to craft AI safety policy at eye level with the public ahead of drawing up national measures to secure AI safety.

The panel included Second Vice Minister Ryu Je-myung (류제명) of the ministry, Ji-hyun Kim (김지현), a vice president at the SK AI Committee, Joo-ho Kim (김주호), a professor at KAIST, and Sang-wook Lee (이상욱), a professor at Hanyang University.

The event began with opening remarks by Vice Minister Ryu. It then featured lectures by Vice President Kim on changes in global AI innovation trends and by Professor Kim on technical and institutional proposals to respond to AI risks.

The panel discussion that followed addressed "changes and opportunities in life stemming from AI innovation" and "responses to AI risks and ways to secure safe AI". Participants shared with the audience changes in daily life driven by AI, potential AI risks and response measures.

After the panel discussion, Vice Minister Ryu and audience members communicated directly on AI safety during a question-and-answer session. Audience members asked about points they had been curious about in AI innovation and safety, including social change brought by AI and responses to risks. Ryu and the panelists answered in detail and formed a shared understanding.

Ryu said, "Competitiveness in the AI era depends on how much trust in technology we secure." He said, "We will create an environment in which the public can use AI with peace of mind through fostering an AI safety ecosystem."
