The Election Broadcast Deliberation Committee for the 9th nationwide local elections held its first meeting on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Broadcasting Hall in Mok-dong and elected Lee Jong-su (이종수) as chair and Won Jun-hee (원준희) as vice chair.
Lee is a professor at Yonsei University Law School and serves as a member of the advisory committee at the Constitutional Court. Won previously served as a standing member of the South Gyeongsang Province Election Commission.
The committee also adopted and published guidance that broadcasters must follow to ensure fair election coverage. The main points include compliance with reporting standards for election opinion polls, limits on candidates' appearances on broadcasts, and maintaining fairness and objectivity in election reporting.
The appointment period for members runs through July 3. Under the Public Official Election Act, the committee operates until 30 days after election day.
