Xreal (XREAL), an augmented reality glasses company, launches the new Xreal 1S in South Korea, equipped with its self-developed dedicated processor, the X1 chip. The company plans to broaden the AR glasses user base beyond early adopters to general users with a model that adds 3D functions.
Xreal Korea on Tuesday held a media briefing at Red Button Culture Stage in Seoul's Gangnam district to introduce the Xreal 1S and share its domestic business strategy.
The Xreal 1S is the first in the world to support native real-time 2D-to-3D conversion on the glasses alone. The X1 chip analyses 2D video in real time and immediately converts it to 3D. It converts not only films but also general YouTube and OTT videos into 3D on the device itself and displays them on the glasses, allowing users to watch stereoscopic video without buying separate 3D content.
It also addresses motion sickness, a weakness often cited for AR glasses. Existing AR glasses have been criticised for causing dizziness because the screen follows as the user moves their head. Xreal applies a native 3DoF function that keeps the screen fixed in place to compensate for that drawback.
It also includes an on-screen display menu, allowing users to adjust key settings directly on the glasses, including brightness, screen mode, screen size, electronic tinting, 3D switching and refresh rate. It delivers a 120 Hz refresh rate and 3 ms ultra-low latency, and also works without installing a separate app.
For the display, it uses Sony's 0.68-inch micro OLED panel, supporting 1200p resolution and 700 nit brightness. The field of view is expanded to 52 degrees. The aspect ratio can be switched on the glasses among 16:18, 21:9 and 32:9 ultra-wide screen formats. For audio, it includes four speakers developed in collaboration with BOSE. It weighs 82 grams, which the company said reduces the burden during long wear.
The South Korean launch price is 650,000 won, and it is available through the Xreal official store on Naver Smart Store. It will later be sold on Coupang and TOSS Shopping. The free warranty period is 1 year.
Xreal Korea, founded in 2020, is targeting the South Korean market with a localisation strategy. The company stressed that it currently ranks No. 1 in sales in the domestic AR glasses market. An Xreal Korea official said, "A simple user experience is important," adding, "We will provide services that complete the experience, not just sell products."
