Salesforce-owned communications platform Slack has unveiled more than 30 new features as it speeds up its shift from a simple messenger to an AI-based work hub.
Deepview reported on March 31 that the update centres on meeting transcription and notes. After installing the Slack desktop app and enabling the feature, Slackbot listens in the background to meetings held on external apps such as Zoom or Google Meet. It organises the content, writes a summary and identifies action items.
It allows Slack to do within its own app what separate apps such as Otter.ai and Fireflies.ai used to handle.
Rob Seaman (롭 시먼), Slack's EVP and general manager, said sales staff often work with email, video meetings and ongoing tasks open at the same time. He said the personal notes feature will significantly reduce that burden.
Beyond meeting transcription, the Operator Mode feature has Slackbot carry out multi-step tasks such as producing summaries or drafting follow-up emails, based on content the user selects on the screen. AI Skills is a library of built-in and custom commands for repeatable workflows. Via an MCP client, Slack also supports integration with external enterprise apps including Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 and Notion.
Slack also introduced its own CRM function. Slackbot reads channel conversations and automatically records deal information, contacts and call notes. It is aimed at small and midsize companies that find it difficult to maintain a separate sales system.
Slackbot will be opened from April to users on both free and Pro plans. Seaman said it is building a personal agent that understands all context within Slack while maintaining strong processing capabilities. He said it will become an intelligent colleague that helps with work throughout the day and connects with other agents.
