Musinsa said on Tuesday it appointed Park Chang-geun (박창근) as a new outside director at its 14th annual general meeting of shareholders held on March 31. The company said the decision was aimed at advancing corporate governance and strengthening fashion expertise.
Park, the new outside director, is a fashion management professional who has led the entry of global fashion brands into South Korea and the global growth of domestic brands for more than 30 years. He previously served as a vice president at Cheil Industries, chief executive of Levi's Japan and head of Levi's Korea. He also led businesses for major fashion brands such as MCM, Nepa and Dr. Martens, developing brand repositioning and global strategies.
The company said it expects Park to contribute broadly as Musinsa seeks to become a global platform amid a rapidly changing fashion commerce environment.
Musinsa increased the number of outside directors to 4 with Park's addition. Its board currently has 10 members: 3 inside directors, 4 outside directors and 3 other non-executive directors. It runs subcommittees including an audit committee, an executive compensation committee, an outside director nomination committee, an internal transactions committee and an environment, social and governance (ESG) committee.
A Musinsa official said Park was the best person, combining insight into the essence of the fashion business with a strong understanding of global markets. The official said the company would raise the expertise of major decision-making centered on the board and strengthen Musinsa's role as a partner helping its partner brands expand globally.
