Uber is acquiring parking reservation app SpotHero as it moves to expand its mobility platform, CNBC reported on Sunday. Uber plans to integrate SpotHero into its app to make it easier to reserve parking at events and airports.
With the acquisition, Uber plans to cover parking services as well as ride-hailing to strengthen a driver-focused mobility ecosystem. Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi (다라 코스로샤히) said, "We will provide a more convenient experience through the Uber app even when drivers choose parking."
In its recent fourth-quarter results, Uber said its delivery business showed growth, but its shares fell on a weak profit outlook. The SpotHero acquisition is seen as part of a strategy to expand the Uber platform and improve profitability.
