KakaoBank said on Monday it is running a donation campaign using fairy tale books produced with direct participation from youth preparing for independence.

"Everyone's Independence" is an independence support programme KakaoBank has operated with the Children and Future Foundation since 2022. KakaoBank has supported structured financial education and financial consulting for young people, as well as a fairy tale book project that combines creative activities and social giving.

Five published fairy tale books, including "Fly, Cuckoo," "The One and Only Me" and "The Story of the Bumpy, Jagged Stone," were produced with direct participation in story development and illustration by 20 young people who took part in the programme last year, with KakaoBank's support. The books include the experiences of youth preparing to live independently and messages of encouragement for prospective participants.

Based on the works, KakaoBank opened a donation campaign on Kakao's social contribution platform KakaoTogether and began fundraising to help cover education costs and living-stability funds for youth preparing for independence. The target is 10 million won, and the campaign runs until May 19.

KakaoBank also delivered 290 copies of the completed fairy tale books directly to five organisations nationwide that support youth preparing for independence, including Seohyeon Youth Center, the Gyeonggi Southern Foster Care Support Center and Seoul's dedicated independence support agency.

KakaoBank said it planned the campaign to draw social interest and participation for youth preparing for independence. It said it would continue providing support in various ways so they can settle in a stable way economically and emotionally.
