The Ministry of Science and ICT's National Radio Research Agency said on Monday South Korea led standardisation discussions at the 33rd international standards meeting on Cloud Computing and Distributed Platforms (ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 38), held on Jeju from March 23 to 27.

The agency stressed that a standard proposed by South Korea defines the relationships among artificial intelligence (AI) applications, systems and components in cloud computing environments. It said the standard presents a basis for efficiently implementing AI services that require large-scale data and computing on the cloud.

South Korea also presented direction on how to deploy large workloads generated during AI model training and service processes in cloud environments and how to use resources efficiently.

The meeting also began discussions on developing new standards, including purpose-specific cloud computing and cloud computing for implementing the metaverse.

Chang-rim Jung (정창림), head of the National Radio Research Agency, said, "It is a very meaningful achievement that our country has come to lead the development of international standards in the cloud sector, a core foundation of the AI era." He said, "We will continue to strengthen competitiveness in the global market through the development of international standards that help our companies."
