Mirae Asset Group said on March 30 it will introduce an "energy-saving policy" across all affiliates in step with the government’s push to strengthen energy conservation.

It will first implement a vehicle odd-even day system for employees across all affiliates from March 31. The measure applies to business and commuting vehicles, restricting driving by day of the week based on the last digit of the license plate.

Driving will be restricted for vehicles with plate endings 1 and 6 on Monday, 2 and 7 on Tuesday, 3 and 8 on Wednesday, 4 and 9 on Thursday, and 5 and 0 on Friday. Electric and hydrogen vehicles, as well as vehicles used by people with disabilities, pregnant women and those travelling with infants and young children, will be exempt.

The group will also carry out in-house energy-saving efforts. It will switch off office lighting during lunch and after work, and require immediate switch-off of shared spaces such as meeting rooms and pantries when not in use.

It will also cut power to unused computers and monitors to reduce electricity waste. It will use mobile devices where possible and refrain from using paper as much as possible.

It also plans to actively use video meetings to minimise unnecessary business trips and encourage public transport use, reducing energy use during travel as well.

The measures will be operated on a voluntary basis led by general affairs and facilities departments at each affiliate, but the group plans to review making them mandatory in stages if necessary.

A Mirae Asset Group official said, "In a national crisis situation where uncertainty over energy supply and demand is growing, a company’s responsible role is important." The official added, "All employees will actively participate in the government’s energy-saving policy and will put into practice efforts to reduce energy use across daily work."
