Unity Technologies has decided to close the ironSource advertising network. A bid to reshape the mobile advertising market through a $4.4 billion merger is effectively coming to an end in less than 4 years, Israeli local media outlet Calcalist reported on Thursday.

Unity said in an investor update it will end the ironSource advertising network on April 30 and has also begun procedures to sell its casual game publishing subsidiary Supersonic. Unity said the measures are part of streamlining to focus on its core businesses and new technologies.

When the two companies merged in 2022, they expected the ironSource advertising business to play a central role in the combined company, but the outcome was the opposite. Rather than grow the ironSource network, Unity invested in its own advertising infrastructure. It also converted its existing platform into an AI-based system and relaunched it under the name "Unity Vector".

Calcalist reported that in early 2024 the ironSource co-founders left Unity, and that former chief executive Tomer Bar-Zeev (토머 바르-제에브) also resigned around that time.

Supersonic is a casual game publisher with mobile hits including Bridge Race, Going Balls and Build a Queen. It is currently working with a financial advisory firm on the sale process.
