The Broadcast Media Telecommunications Commission and the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy Committee on Thursday held a meeting on fostering a K-public forum in the AI era and discussed directions for cooperation to revitalise digital public forums and respond to AI misuse, they said.
The two agencies shared the view that fostering digital public forums linked to private platforms and strengthening public-private cooperation are needed to overcome limits in securing Korea-specific data. They also discussed responses to misuse such as disinformation and deepfakes amid the spread of generative AI, along with ways to improve relevant systems by the Broadcast Media Telecommunications Commission, the lead agency, and expand AI literacy programmes.
Kim Jong-cheol (김종철), chair of the Broadcast Media Telecommunications Commission, said it will work closely with the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy Committee to build a responsible AI ecosystem. He said it will strengthen the functions of its user protection programmes and comprehensively push efforts to respond to misuse and boost literacy.
Lim Moon-young (임문영), standing vice chair of the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy Committee, said dialogue and debate materials in digital public forums that reflect Koreans' sentiments and values are an important asset for training an independent AI foundation model. He stressed that the committee will further expand consultations with the Broadcast Media Telecommunications Commission on digital public forums and responses to AI misuse.
