[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang] Meta will cut hundreds of employees across multiple divisions including Reality Labs, Facebook, global operations, recruitment and sales, CNBC reported on March 25 local time.

Sources familiar with internal matters said some employees are offered other roles within the company, but taking new jobs could require moving between regions.

The layoffs are part of restructuring as Meta focuses on investment in AI. Meta is increasing investment in AI to compete with OpenAI, Anthropic and Google.

In January, Meta also laid off a large number of staff in the virtual reality (VR) unit within Reality Labs and shut down several VR title studios. More than 1,000 people lost their jobs in that round, The New York Times reported, and 10 percent of the hardware division responsible for the Quest VR headset and the Horizon Worlds virtual social network was affected.
