South Korea's National Artificial Intelligence Strategy Committee said on March 25 it will expand and reorganise its structure from eight subcommittees and six task forces into 10 subcommittees, two special committees and one task force.

The reorganisation is based on an amendment to its operating rules approved at the second plenary meeting on Feb. 25. It will appoint 45 additional members, increasing the total from 82 to 127.

The main changes are fourfold: it will split the existing Science and Talent subcommittee into Science and Education Talent; establish an AI Democracy subcommittee; upgrade the Regional and Security task force to a special committee; and create a Legal task force.

Lim Moon-young (임문영), the committee's standing vice chairman, said, "We will strengthen the foundation for policy discussions so that the Republic of Korea can leap to become one of the world's top three AI powers by operating subcommittees in which top experts from industry, academia and research participate."
