Gap is introducing a system through a partnership with Google that will let customers buy products and make payments directly within the Gemini AI platform. It is the first such attempt by a fashion company.
Gap Chief Technology Officer Sven Gerjets (스벤 거제츠) said conversation, not keyword search, is now at the center. He said the goal is to let customers directly buy products recommended by an AI platform.
Through the collaboration, customers will be able to search for Gap products on Google Gemini and buy them immediately within the platform if the AI recommends them. Payments will be made via Google Pay and Gap will handle delivery directly. Gap plans to use this to secure customer data and provide a personalized shopping experience. It also plans to soon introduce an AI-based size recommendation tool called Bold Metrics to improve convenience.
But the fact that customers cannot use loyalty points remains a task for improvement. Gerjets said the company will continue to develop the AI shopping experience in the direction customers want.
