South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups said on March 24 they will hold additional “AI+” policy briefings for small and venture AI companies. The aim is to strengthen companies’ response capabilities after the AI Basic Act took effect in January and to gather on-the-ground views during the regulatory grace period.
More than 300 people attended two earlier briefings in January and February, and about 9,000 watched the YouTube live streams.
There will be three additional briefings. The first will be held in Seoul on April 1 under the supervision of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, linked to the launch ceremony of the “Everyone’s Challenge AX.” It will provide startup response strategies for the AI Basic Act and one-on-one legal consultations.
On May 6, an event hosted by the Korea Artificial Intelligence Association will be held in connection with the COEX “AI Expo.” It will provide guidance on how to determine high-impact AI and required obligations, and it will include one-on-one consultations with AI fund venture capital firms.
In August, it will be held on a scale of 500 people in connection with the “Venture Summer Forum” hosted by the Korea Venture Business Association. Each briefing will also run a YouTube live stream.
Kim Kyung-man (김경만), head of AI policy at the Ministry of Science and ICT, said, “We will actively support startups by easing concerns in the early stage of implementing the AI Basic Act and enabling companies to participate in legal compliance.”
