Samsung Electronics' Galaxy S26 series users can now send and receive photos, videos and files with iPhone users through Apple's AirDrop. This level of compatibility between competitors would have been hard to imagine even a few years ago.

Samsung Electronics said on its official blog it would roll out the feature sequentially from March 23 local time to the Galaxy S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra.

All 3 devices can send files to iPhone, iPad and Mac through the built-in Quick Share feature. Users can turn on the toggle for "Share with Apple devices" in the settings menu.

Bloomberg reported the technology was developed by Google, the developer of the Android operating system. Google first introduced the feature on its Pixel 10 series last year. Apple did not participate in the development and has not issued an official position on Android smartphones using its AirDrop protocol.

File sharing between devices through AirDrop has been seen as a feature available only within Apple's ecosystem. Even so, Apple has not yet taken steps to block it, Bloomberg reported.

Samsung Electronics plans to expand AirDrop compatibility to more Galaxy models in the future.
