The Broadcasting Media Communications Deliberation Committee (Bamisimwi) on Monday held a plenary meeting at the Korea Broadcasters Association building in Mok-dong, Seoul, and approved the composition of the election broadcast deliberation panel for the 9th nationwide local elections.
The panel is a consultative body established under Article 8-2 of the Public Official Election Act to maintain fairness in election broadcasts. It consists of 9 members recommended by political parties that have formed negotiating groups (2 parties), the Central Election Management Commission, broadcasters, academia in broadcasting, the Korean Bar Association, journalists' groups and civic groups.
The term of appointment runs from March 24, 2026 to July 3, 30 days after election day. The panel plans to hold an appointment ceremony and its first meeting after March 24 and elect a chair and deputy chair through an internal vote. The scope of deliberation covers election broadcasts from the date of स्थापना until the close of voting on election day (June 3).
The nine members recommended by each nominating body are Kwon Soon-taek (권순택), head of the secretariat at Citizens' Coalition for Media Reform, Park Ki-wan (박기완), a member of TV Chosun's Special Committee for Fair Reporting, Park Sang-hoon (박상훈), a partner attorney at Hwawoo law firm, Shin Ho-cheol (신호철), head of policy at the Korea Cable TV and Broadcasting Association, Won Jun-hee (원준희), a former standing member of the South Gyeongsang Provincial Election Commission, Lee Jong-soo (이종수), a professor at Yonsei University Law School, Lim Jang-won (임장원), a professor at Semyung University School of Journalism, Cho Young-gwan (조영관), a partner attorney at Deoksu law firm, and Chae Young-gil (채영길), a professor in the Department of Media and Communication at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies.
