[Digital Today reporter Jinju Hong (홍진주)] An analysis said Samsung Electronics' mid-range Galaxy A56 is putting forward value-for-money competitiveness by offering specifications similar to the flagship Galaxy S26.

According to IT outlet PhoneArena on March 19 (local time), the two models share an almost identical design in appearance, and were assessed as having no major differences in size and weight. With little design differentiation, price-to-performance has become more important for consumers when choosing between them, it said.

There were some differences in performance. The Galaxy A56 supports a 5,000 mAh battery and 45W wired charging, and was analysed as having an advantage in charging speed and usage time over the S26, which offers a 4,300 mAh battery and 25W charging. The display also showed strong performance, with the A56 using a 6.7-inch AMOLED panel and a 120Hz variable refresh rate for sharper and smoother viewing. However, the two were assessed as being at a similar level in actual use because there were no big differences in resolution and pixel density.

The two models had different strengths in the camera. The A56 showed a relative advantage in ultra-wide shooting, while the S26 series performed better in basic shooting and zoom. Overall, the flagship model leads in camera completeness, but the gap is not big by general user standards, it said.

The S26 series has the upper hand in software support. The S26 offers up to 7 years of Android updates and the 'Galaxy AI' feature, while the A56 offers 6 years of support and has limitations on some AI functions. Still, users who make little use of AI may not feel much difference.

Price competitiveness is the A56's biggest strength. The A56 was launched at $499, while the S26 and S26 Plus were priced at $899 and $1,099, respectively. The A56 is judged to be a practical option because users can get a similar experience at about half the price.

PhoneArena analysed: "For general users, the A56 may be more reasonable when considering the battery, screen and price," and "If you need top-tier performance and the latest AI features, the S26 series is suitable."

Meanwhile, the release of the follow-on model, the Galaxy A57 5G, is also scheduled, and value-for-money competition in the mid-range market is expected to intensify further.
