Giatec said on Thursday it signed a 3.5 billion won contract to supply ultra-precision lens assembly and inspection equipment to the Vietnam unit of a global mobile optics company. The company said the order will help it diversify its portfolio beyond its existing business structure centered on secondary batteries.
The equipment to be supplied is a key piece of machinery in the manufacturing process for high-performance camera lenses used in the latest smartphones. Giatec said it applied advanced control technologies such as a six-axis stage unit and a five-axis prism shuttle stage. It explained that this enables a one-stop process from automated material feeding and lens assembly to 3D inspection and UV curing, boosting productivity.
The company said the order expands its presence into the smartphone camera module manufacturing market, where nanometre-level ultra-precision control technology is essential. It also said it is broadening applications for its hybrid AI vision solution, RabidAI, and secured references during process upgrades by entering the mass-production line of a global top-tier customer.
Giatec Chairman In-young Lee (이인영) said, "This 3.5 billion won order is a feat that proves Giatec's ultra-precision control technology has solid competitiveness in the global mobile market." He added, "Based on the global supply chain we have secured, we will expand equipment supply, and going forward we will combine our AI vision technology to leap into a high value-added solutions company that integrates hardware and software."
