Kakao Mobility said on Thursday it has received a commendation from South Korea’s foreign minister in recognition of its support for transport infrastructure during 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) events.

The company said it served as an official sponsor for APEC in 2025, supporting the third senior officials’ meeting in Songdo in July last year and the leaders’ meeting plenary session in Gyeongju in October. It operated free loop shuttle buses linking key event areas to help the movement of delegations and officials from each country.

Through the Kakao Bus app, it also provided information on temporary detours for 26 routes via the Bomun complex. It also guided visitors on autonomous bus routes and boarding information at the venue so they could experience autonomous driving technology.

Kakao Navi provided advance notice of detour routes around congested areas near the venue and information on an even-odd vehicle restriction scheme. It also supported English-language searches for 7 official parking lots operated temporarily during the event period. The company said the measures reflected the event’s characteristics, including a large number of foreign visitors.

Ryu Geung-sun (류긍선), chief executive of Kakao Mobility, said, "It is meaningful to be able to contribute to the successful hosting of a national event as the country’s leading mobility platform." He said, "We will move forward as a global mobility company that provides innovative travel experiences to users around the world, beyond Korea."
