Kiwoom Securities said on Thursday that its volunteer group, Kiwoom and Sharing, supported a total of 13 organisations last year and held 11 employee-participation volunteer activities.
Kiwoom and Sharing was founded in 2012 as Kiwoom Securities' in-house volunteer group.
Last year, employees of Kiwoom and Sharing repaired 2 households in Yeongdeungpo district, Seoul, and 4 households in Dongjak district, Seoul. The group also carried out meal-serving volunteer activities, sharing special meals around Lunar New Year and Chuseok holidays as well as during Chobok, Malbok and year-end periods.
It also provides financial support using a budget raised through in-house donation events and other efforts. It donated a total of 326 million won last year. It provided daily necessities to infant and childcare facilities, shelters for victims of domestic violence and people with disabilities.
To improve housing conditions for low-income residents, it also provided items including kitchen sinks, toilets and boilers. It worked with various organisations including Sarangnanum House, Joy Village, Anyang House, Seongsimwon and the Housing Welfare Solidarity.
Starting this year, it will step up volunteer activities that employees' families can also take part in. It is planning activities such as making donation kits to be delivered to vulnerable groups including older people.
A Kiwoom Securities official said, "We will continue to work to build sustainable social contribution activities, not one-off events, so that we can put the value of sharing into practice."
