As competition heats up among AI-based browsers, Google has added features designed to boost productivity in Chrome, TechCrunch reported on Feb. 19 local time. The update adds split view, PDF annotation and a Google Drive saving function to Chrome.

Integration between Chrome and Google services has also been strengthened.

With split view, users can place two webpages side by side in a single tab for multitasking. Dragging a tab or right-clicking a link and selecting "Open in split view" automatically splits the screen. Users can exit split view with a right-click when it is not needed. The PDF annotation function lets users add annotations or highlight text directly in Chrome, enabling basic editing without downloading documents. It also supports digital signatures, form filling and adding notes.

The update also makes it possible to save PDF files directly to Google Drive rather than to a computer. Saved files are automatically sorted into a "Saved from Chrome" folder for management.

Google also plans to add a "vertical tabs" feature to Chrome that rival browsers introduced earlier.
