Netflix will livestream 'BTS Comeback Live: ARIRANG', to be held in Seoul's Gwanghwamun area at 8 p.m. on March 21, worldwide on the strength of its global streaming technology accumulated over 10 years, it said on Tuesday.
'BTS Comeback Live: ARIRANG' is a live event being introduced in South Korea for the first time. Netflix will deploy its own technologies for the livestream, including advanced video encoding, traffic load balancing and multi-layer failure recovery systems. It has a triple safety setup that automatically switches immediately to a backup encoder if the main encoder fails. The livestream is based on infrastructure connected to more than 1,000 internet service providers worldwide through Open Connect, its own content delivery network (CDN).
Netflix said it previously validated its technology by running large live events including 'Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson Boxing', 'NFL Christmas Game' and 'WWE'.
Netflix members can watch on a range of devices including TVs, mobile phones and tablets at no additional cost.
A Netflix official said, "To deliver the best live show, top experts are mobilising all the live know-how accumulated since 2023 and are focusing all efforts on broadcasting this BTS comeback live." The official said, "Unlike existing offline performances that were limited to audiences in specific regions or ticket buyers, we will do our utmost so that a historic moment in K-culture can be created in which fans around the world can enjoy the performance simultaneously within the same subscription environment through Netflix."
