Park In-gyu (박인규), head of the Science and Technology Innovation Division at the Ministry of Science and ICT, held a meeting on Feb. 19 with officials from academia, the research community, industry and specialist research management institutions to discuss measures to reform research and development (R&D) regulations.

The meeting, held in the main conference room of the support group for the Science and Technology Advisory Council, discussed shifting to a management system that can encourage researchers to carry out research diligently.

Park listened to field opinions on measures to manage researchers’ level of focus so they can choose projects on their own and concentrate on them. He also checked the status of efforts to build interoperability between the research support system being pursued to ease research administration burdens and institutional systems.

Park said, "The core of R&D innovation is enabling researchers to break free from unnecessary administrative regulations and focus only on creative research." He added, "Institutional flexibility that guarantees research autonomy, and links between administrative systems that support it, will be a driving force for changing the research field."
