The Korea Game Industry Association signed a memorandum of understanding with the Youth Foundation on March 16 to cooperate on mutual growth between young people and the game and esports industry and to foster talent, it said on Monday.

The agreement comes as demand among young people to enter the game and esports sector rises with the industry's growth. It aims to resolve mismatches between the industry's need for talent and youth talent, and to lay the groundwork for training people with practical skills.

The association and the Youth Foundation will build a cooperation system linking public interest and expertise in the game industry. They plan to systematically push ahead with programmes to train young talent based on industry demand and support entry into the sector to improve the effectiveness of the projects.

Under the agreement, the two organisations agreed to cooperate on joint projects such as youth participation programmes in games and esports, training young talent in the sector, supporting entry into the industry and building a sustainable youth-industry cooperation framework.

Association Chairman Cho Young-ki (조영기) said games and esports would be a core cultural content industry driving South Korea's future. He said he hoped the agreement would become a venue of opportunity for young people to unfold unlimited potential and a valuable chance for the game industry to gain fresh ideas and new vitality.
