AI agent-based chip design startup ChipAgents raised $50 million in a Series A1 funding round, securing total funding of $74 million, SiliconANGLE reported on Feb. 18.
ChipAgents is developing a platform that automates the chip design process using AI agents. While conventional electronic design automation (EDA) software has largely used AI as an auxiliary tool, ChipAgents aims to shorten development cycles by having AI agents directly carry out design and verification tasks. Founder and CEO William Wang (윌리엄 왕) stressed, "Our platform is not a simple AI assistant but a system in which AI leads every step of the design work."
The company said ChipAgents' AI agents carry out iterative tasks such as reading chip design specifications, breaking down goals, discussing solutions and validating results. This allows small design teams to work as quickly as large teams and speeds up verification, enabling faster development of high-performance chips.
ChipAgents plans to use the investment to expand its engineering and research teams and accelerate the platform's global launch. Over the long term, it aims to build a fully automated model in which AI agents automatically handle every stage of chip development.
